Watches: Diesel x Mister Cartoon Limited Edition

Having previously teamed up to create a campaign for the signature ‘Only The Brave’ fragrance earlier this year, Italian fashion brand Diesel and Los Angeles-based graphic artist Mister Cartoon are looking to replicate their earlier success by joining forces to create Diesel’s first ever collaborative timepiece collection.

Mark Machado, aka Mister Cartoon, got his start as an artist at the tender age of twelve, airbrushing T-shirts and cars, before becoming a world-renowned tattoo artist. His work has adorned the bodies of such heavyweights as Dr. Dre, Beyoncé and Snoop Lion (née Dogg,) in addition to being featured in more commercial ventures – including campaigns for Nike, Toyota and the controversial Grand Theft Auto video game series.

This new collaboration sees Cartoon taking on designer duties as he adds his distinctive flavour to two unique timepieces, which feature his trademark clown face icon, “Fineline Style” art and painstakingly rendered Roman numerals. Both casebacks also feature Cartoon’s individual interpretation of Diesel’s Mohican icon.The first model, assigned the catchy name DZMC0001, boasts a silver on black watchface emblazoned with the Cartoon clown face image and features silver dials with red detailing. The side of the case has a custom engraving, signifying production number, and the band features embossed stenciling.

Model number two, the similarly-named DZMC0002, features oversized Roman numerals in a light golden colour, with a matte black watchface, golden hands and a stencilled olivine silicone wristband. The watchface also contains an LED backlight function and a date window.

Although primarily created as an exercise in aesthetics, the Diesel x Mister Cartoon timepieces look to provide excellent function as well as fashion, and would not look out of place in any fashion-conscious chronophile’s collection.
